Durban hosts Market Access Africa conference

Market Access Africa, a premier global platform for agricultural innovation and trade, returned to Durban for the second time. The event aimed to unlock new opportunities across the agri-food value chain. The conference and exhibition took place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli ICC, from June 2 to 3, drawing over 600 delegates from around 50 countries.

Attendees included Minister of Agriculture, John Steenhuisen, ministers from several African nations, and the Mayor of eThekwini Municipality, Councillor Cyril Xaba. All emphasised the need for resilient food systems and export-ready infrastructure. Also in attendance were Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Trade and Industry in Ghana, Sampson Ahi, along with international buyers and representatives from financial institutions.

As part of its commitment to inclusive growth, eThekwini Agri-Business sponsored 10 local AgriSMMEs. These businesses showcased their products, connected with international buyers, and explored new business opportunities. The event served as a powerful platform for market integration, knowledge exchange, and strategic partnerships, reinforcing KwaZulu-Natal’s position as a leading agri-business hub in Africa.
