The KZN Govan Mbeki awards 2017 
1. The KZN Govan Mbeki awards were held on 14 September 2017 at the Greyville Convention Centre.

Emaphaleni in the Western region was winner in both the ‘Best Informal Settlement Upgrading’, and ‘Most Beautified, Clean and Enhanced Neighborhood’ categories. ‘Best Integrated Residential Development Project’ went to Cornubia in the North.  Jacobs and Klaarwater Community Residential Units (CRUs) were deemed first runner up in the ‘Best CRU’ category, and Hampshire in the ‘Best Social Housing Project’ category.

2. The National Govan Mbeki awards were held on 9 November at Gallagher Estate, Johannesburg.  eThekwini was recognized as the “Best Metropolitan Municipality”.  That award is given to the Metro who has shown the greatest “passion, ingenuity and power” in delivering services to its residents and acknowledges the important role of the metros in the growth of the South African economy.
eThekwini Municipality was a winner at the annual Govan Mbeki awards in 2016.  The City was credited with the best Community Residential units, for the recently built family units in the Glebelands precinct.
